British Bobath Tutors Association
Karen is a member of the British Bobath Tutors Association (BBTA), having qualified as a Basic Course Instructor in September 2022. Several of the Horizon team are trained in the Bobath Concept – an approach to neuro-rehabilitation that considers the impact of the neurological condition on the whole person within their individual context.
Karen is also a member of the International Bobath Instructors Training Association (IBITA) and will be delivering training throughout 2025. Spaces are always sought after so please get in touch to find out how to book.
International Bobath Instructors Training Association
The Bobath concept is the most widely used neuro-rehabilitation approach worldwide. This approach fits well with Horizon Rehabilitation’s core values – Be positive; Seek solutions; Work hard together – because it considers the impact of the neurological condition on the whole person within their individual context.
Karen and the Horizon team apply the Bobath Concept clinical reasoning framework (Michelson et al, 2019) when analysing a person’s movement in order to develop a bespoke treatment plan. The approach focuses on:
- Selective, functional movement
- Postural control, balance and stability
- The role of sensory information
- Hands-on approaches to influence how the nervous system can produce movement and become more efficient (neuroplasticity)
- Motor learning and application the current evidence base in the field Neuroscience for Movement
IBITA unites Instructors (Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists) worldwide, representing more than 255 members in 29 countries. It provides educational opportunities and the chance to collaborate with expert neurological therapists from all over the world, sharing ideas and updating our educational programmes for the benefit of people with neurological conditions.
