Love to Move

Dementia Class

Love to Move is specially designed to get older people, and those with dementia, moving and functioning better. The sessions achieve this by carefully integrating the use of key movement skills, cognitive stimulation therapy and social interaction activities.

Almost every part of Love to Move is based on moving each side of the body separately in different movement patterns. It challenges the brain to process information from both sides of the body at the same time. This improves cognitive function, coordination and the ability to carry out the functions of everyday life more independently.

Above all, the programme is fun! One of our participants has said that it brings her:

“One hour of wonderfulness each week!"

Lucinda, our Therapy Assistant, delivers these sessions at a variety of different venues.

Love To Move Dementia

Specialist Classes Testimonials

Well organised- Simone is likeable and knowledgeable with a good sense of humour and sympathetic to our needs. I have found the introduction to lightweights useful plus exercises to improve balance good. Keep up the good work
JT, Marlow
Just a quick note to thank you for organising the strength group sessions. I have always been sceptical about joining group activities due to my lack of movement in my left side from my stroke and feared that I would be an obstacle to others development and my own ability to participate. However, thanks to Karen, Simone, Robert and Lucinda this has not been the case, I have found everyone very helpful and attentive to the needs of the individuals in the group and the exercises were adapted to suit each individual’s ability. I thoroughly enjoy taking part and I look forward to it every Thursday.
Mohammed, High Wycombe
My stroke was 2 years ago and after hospital therapy I was keen to continue exercising in a group situation. Due to Covid restrictions I could not find such a group - then in May a friend introduced me to Horizon. It was exactly what I had been looking for. The therapists are knowledgeable and understanding of medical needs and the classes are fun as well as beneficial.

Sessions like this are so important. I have Dementia but activities like this get inside me and push the dementia out, leaving me feeling free to move again.
